Think, produce, communicate

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Tom Franklin

THOMAS B. FRANKLIN's life changed radically after duty in the U.S. Military at the end of the 1950s. After World War II and the Korean War, the U.S. Office of Naval Research and the National Science Foundation began looking into methods of enhancing the development of human performance. This became part of "A Symposium on Attention and Performance" in the 1960s. At the end of his military tour of duty, Tom Franklin participated in an experimental training program, designed by an ex-Navy officer to significantly increase alertness, vigilance and performance in both combat and life situations. The training had an incidental benefit in that it brought about I.Q. increases of between 5 and 30 points. More than 500 tests showing I.Q. increases up to 25 points were submitted to the Office of Naval Research. At the end of an eight-week program, Franklin's I.Q. test had jumped 30 points, from 123 to 153. He took the MENSA qualifying tests and verified his increase in I.Q. He also returned to college where he now earned "A"s in subjects where he was previously a "C" student.

Since the late 1960s, Franklin has worked at recreating this intelligence training for both business and the general public. In 1988, he completed a book entitled: "Problem Solving Power," followed by a short book on memory enhancement, entitled: "Remembering is the Greatest Gift of All." During the 1990s, he published "Dare to Double Your Business," a compilation of his articles on a more intelligent approach to sales, marketing and management. His comprehensive book on intelligence enhancement, entitled "I.Q./I.X.: Nine Ways to Increase Intelligence and Productivity," was published in 2005. His latest book is "The Power of Totally Focused Attention and Communication."

Tom Franklin is a long-standing member of Toastmasters, International; American Mensa, Ltd.; and the American Society for Training and Development. He has had training in "Traumatic Incident Reduction" through the TIRA.org. He resides in Los Angeles, California, with his wife of more than thirty years.
